It was a warm summer evening on Lake Erie in August iin the year of 1950. I was just six years old. My Aunt Dorothy and Uncle David were cooking a dinner of fresh caught fish and fresh corn on the cobb on
the beach.
No one noticed the little girl going out with the tide on her inner tube.
I hit two or three of the big ones.
Up and over, boy was this fun! Then things got very calm.
About this time, I noticed several holes in my inner tube. As I looked toward the shore line, I noticed how small the people were becoming. There were so many holes in my inner tube, I had to use all my fingers to plug them. My inner tube was a bit smaller now.
I waved my hand and quick put my fingers back. Then soon I noticed a figure in the water comming closer and closer. Yes! It was My Uncle David! Oh! Oh! His face was getting blue. As he approached me, I Said "Uncle David, you get in and plug the holes. I am not tired and you are blue." So he did. He was so exhausted.
Soon the Lake Erie Coast Guard came along and picked us both up. Uncle David went to the hospital and I went home to bed. I was grateful for the help and love of a good family.
